A 45-year-old woman was killed after being hit and dragged by a speeding Ertiga car on National Highway-52 near Khilchipur in Rajgarh district on Monday night. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM and was captured on CCTV cameras installed along the highway. The deceased has been identified as Krishna Bai Verma (45), a resident of Hedgewar Colony. She was crossing the highway with her husband Raju Verma (58) to have tea when the accident took place. According to police, the Ertiga car hit Krishna Bai at high speed, throwing her nearly 10 feet into the air. She fell onto the car’s bonnet and was dragged for about 200 metres. She suffered critical injuries and died due to excessive bleeding and trauma. Family was returning from Rajasthan Krishna Bai, her husband Raju Verma and their son Sunil (20) had gone to Iklera in Rajasthan on Sunday morning to meet Raju’s elderly father Mathura Lal. While returning at night, Sunil stopped his bike on the Khilchipur–Dhamaniya stretch near Srishti Hotel. After dropping his parents, he crossed the road on the bike and asked them to walk across. It was during this crossing that the speeding car struck Krishna Bai. Driver fled, family chased car After the accident, Raju Verma and Sunil tried to chase the car, but the driver fled from the spot. Hotel operator Kushal Dangi, who witnessed the incident, immediately helped and took the injured woman towards Rajgarh. She was transferred to an ambulance midway and taken to the District Hospital, Rajgarh, where doctors declared her dead. Police probe underway Police have registered a case against the unknown driver. Efforts are on to identify the vehicle and the accused using CCTV footage from the highway.
