Union Minister for Communications and Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday announced the launch of Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48 services in Shivpuri, reducing delivery time for parcels and documents. Under the new system, consignments that earlier took 3–5 days will now be delivered within 24 or 48 hours, depending on the route. What the new service offers Addressing the event, Scindia said the initiative aims to transform India Post into a fast, modern and reliable logistics network. He said timely delivery has become essential for citizens, businesses and government departments, and the new services have been introduced to meet this demand. Under Speed Post 24, parcels and documents will be delivered within one day on major routes and cities. Speed Post 48 will ensure delivery within two days on remaining routes. The service also includes digital tracking and OTP-based delivery, improving transparency and reliability. Benefits for citizens and businesses Scindia said the new services will directly benefit e-commerce companies, traders, small entrepreneurs, government offices and common citizens. Faster and affordable delivery will help small traders expand their reach and improve service efficiency. How it was earlier Earlier, speed post delivery usually took three to five days or more. Tracking facilities were limited, and registered post functioned as a separate service. Post office infrastructure projects During the visit, Scindia inaugurated the renovation of the Pichor sub-post office, completed at a cost of around Rs 2 lakh. He also laid the foundation stone and performed bhoomi pujan for a new modern sub-post office building, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 1.11 crore. The upcoming building will have modern service counters, digital transaction facilities, improved waiting areas, organized workspaces and disabled-friendly access. Scindia said India Post is no longer limited to letter delivery and now provides banking, insurance, Aadhaar, digital payments, parcel and logistics services. The government aims to develop post offices into one-stop service centers connecting rural and urban India.
