Ahead of the India versus New Zealand international one-day match scheduled in Indore on January 18, Indore Police have issued an advisory asking cricket fans to remain alert and cautious of ticket-related fraud. Police said cyber criminals are taking advantage of the massive demand for match tickets by circulating fake posts, forged tickets and fraudulent links on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Telegram. By falsely claiming ticket availability, scammers are cheating unsuspecting fans of money. Tickets sold out, no official sales ongoing The police clarified that tickets for the match, organised under the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA), are completely sold out. At present, no tickets are available either online or offline. Despite this, fraudsters are actively misleading people by claiming access to tickets through unofficial channels. Additional DCP (Crime Branch) Rajesh Dandotiya said: Several complaints of cheating related to ticket purchases have already been received. Acting on these complaints, we have arrested two accused. The accused allegedly showed fake tickets to victims, collected payments by making them scan UPI QR codes and blocked the victims immediately after receiving the money. Investigations have revealed that scammers are using two common methods to defraud people. In some cases, fake tickets are sold, while in others, fraudulent links or APK files are shared to steal personal data from mobile phones and carry out cyber fraud. Black marketing will invite strict action Police have warned that anyone attempting to sell match tickets in the black market will face strict legal action. Police teams are keeping continuous surveillance on suspicious online activity and individuals involved in illegal ticket sales. Helpline numbers shared for public assistance Indore Police have appealed to citizens not to fall for any person, post or link claiming to provide match tickets. In case of any suspicious activity or cyber fraud, people have been advised to immediately contact the national cybercrime helpline at 1930, call the Indore Police cyber helpline at 7049124445, or lodge a complaint at the nearest police station.
