‘apologise-for-that-behaviour,-my-conduct-was-wrong’:harry-brook-seeks-forgiveness-for-nightclub-incident-during-nz-tour;-says-–-‘extremely-ashamed’

England captain Harry Brook has apologised for a nightclub incident during the New Zealand tour. This incident occurred on October 31, 2025, the night before the third ODI against New Zealand. The matter came to light on Thursday when a video of the incident the night before was leaked. In it, Brook and Jacob Bethell were both seen drinking. According to The Telegraph’s report, Harry Brook was denied entry to a club the night before the Wellington ODI. After this, the bouncer hit him. This matter has come to light at a time when the England team has lost the Ashes series 4-1 in Australia and questions are being raised about the team’s culture. Brook is currently the captain of England’s white-ball team and also the vice-captain of the Test team. However, while retaining the captaincy, he has been fined around 30,000 pounds and given a final warning. Brook said in a statement- I apologize for that behavior. My conduct was wrong. I and the England team had to face embarrassment. Representing England is the biggest honor. Brook said- I am extremely ashamed for disappointing my fellow players, coaches and fans. I am committed to regaining trust through my behavior both on and off the field by learning from my mistake. England Cricket Director said -‘ It was necessary to counsel both’
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said, ”This incident has been dealt with under formal and confidential disciplinary procedures and the player has acknowledged that his behaviour was not up to standards.”
ECB Cricket Director Rob Key revealed that he had spoken to Brook and Bethell about their behaviour in New Zealand. He said that it did not warrant a formal warning, but it was necessary to explain informally. English players had also consumed alcohol during the Ashes series
ECB Chief Executive Richard Gould said that the team’s ‘behaviour’ during the Ashes series will also be investigated. According to the BBC, English players consumed excessive alcohol during the break between the second and third Tests. It was reported that players allegedly spent 6 days (2 days in Brisbane and then 4 days in Noosa, Queensland) drinking alcohol. After this, ECB Managing Director Rob Key called for an investigation. Brook couldn’t score a century in the Ashes
In the Ashes series, Brook scored 358 runs in 10 innings but couldn’t score a single century. Currently, the 26-year-old Brook will continue to captain England until the T20 World Cup 2026 and the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka starting in two weeks.
