Tension flared at the Kartika Mela Ground in Ujjain after clashes broke out between members of the Kanjjar and Pardhi communities on Tuesday.
The confrontation escalated into Lathi attacks and stone-pelting, prompting police intervention from three police stations to restore order. During the clashes, a sub-inspector sustained injuries. Scuffle turns violent after allegations of harassment The incident occurred near the banks of the Shipra River, where members of both communities had been living in separate tented settlements at the Kartika Mela Ground for some time. Around 5:30 pm, a dispute allegedly triggered by accusations of harassment led to a heated argument between the two groups. The argument soon escalated into pushing and shoving, followed by the use of sticks and stones. The violence quickly spread from the fairground to the adjacent road, forcing passersby to stop their vehicles out of fear. Police rush to the spot, drive away miscreants Upon receiving information, police teams from three police stations, led by CSP Rahul Deshmukh, rushed to the scene. The police used force to disperse the groups and chased away the troublemakers to bring the situation under control. According to CSP Rahul Deshmukh, the situation is now under control and law and order have been restored. Police ask groups to vacate Kartika Mela Ground As a precautionary measure, police have asked members of both communities to vacate the Kartika Mela Ground to prevent further clashes.
