Schools in Ujjain remain closed on Jan 7:Holiday declared for nursery to 8th class students amid cold wave

In view of the severe cold wave, the Ujjain district administration has declared a holiday for all government and private schools for the third consecutive day. District Collector Roshan Singh announced that students from nursery to class 8 will have a day off on Wednesday, including those attending Anganwadi centres, to protect children from adverse health effects caused by the intense cold. Schools remain closed amid cold wave The district has been experiencing the impact of the northern winds, which contribute to extremely low temperatures. Authorities have taken precautionary measures by halting school activities and ensuring the safety and well-being of young children. Historical temperature records Ujjain has a history of severe cold conditions. On January 22, 1962, the mercury had dropped to 0°C. Over the past decade, temperatures have ranged between 2°C and 5.8°C. In terms of rainfall, the highest single-day rainfall was recorded on January 11, 1987, when 1.25 inches of rain fell, and the maximum total monthly rainfall was 2.2 inches in 1994.
