A viral video on social media has triggered a stir in Jabalpur after a woman, identifying herself as a BJP leader and a former member of the Women’s Commission, is heard claiming that she has “committed three murders.”
Following the uproar, the woman, identified as Shikha Sharma, approached the police during a public grievance hearing, alleging that the video is misleading and has been circulated out of context. Sharma has demanded a fair investigation, saying the video was edited in a manner that tarnishes her image. Jabalpur police have initiated a probe to verify the authenticity, context, and circumstances of the video. What the viral video shows In the video, Shikha Sharma is seen sitting on a chair and speaking to another woman standing in front of her. She is heard saying that she has committed “three murders” and claims it to be the truth. She further suggests that the woman can verify this by asking certain police officers, whose names are mentioned in the clip. ‘Video taken out of context,’ says Sharma Terming the viral clip misleading, Sharma told the police that her statements were cut and circulated without proper context. She alleged that the act was deliberate and intended to malign her reputation. Police officials said they are examining the video carefully before drawing any conclusions. Incident comes days after CM’s convoy was stopped The controversy surfaced just days after Shikha Sharma attempted to stop the convoy of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav during his visit to Jabalpur, seeking to raise a complaint. Police personnel present at the spot had intervened and brought the situation under control. Dispute linked to cafe demolition The root of the dispute reportedly lies in a controversy over a café located in the Kachhpura Bridge area. Sharma alleged that the shop was demolished in the presence of police. However, the shop owner, Ravi Patel, dismissed the allegations as baseless, stating that he had approached the concerned departments due to a rental dispute. BJP distances itself from the claim Reacting to the issue, BJP city president Ratnesh Sonkar said there is no confirmation in party records that Shikha Sharma holds any organizational post or is an active party worker. The BJP Mahila Morcha has also distanced itself from the matter. Police officials said further action will be decided only after the investigation into the video is completed.
