38 fresh cases of vomiting–diarrhoea surface in Indore’s Bhagirathpura:HC to hear 3 petitions in contamination case; Congress to protest with candle march

The contaminated water crisis in Bhagirathpura, Indore, has deepened. Fresh cases of vomiting and diarrhoea continue to emerge. Deaths have risen to 17. Hospitals remain under pressure, while the issue is now before the High Court and has triggered city-wide political protests. 38 new patients reported, 6 referred On Monday, 38 new cases of vomiting and diarrhoea were reported from Bhagirathpura. All patients reached the local primary health centre. Six patients were referred to higher hospitals due to serious conditions. Death toll reaches 17, ICU cases continue So far, 17 people have died due to contaminated water. Currently, 110 patients are admitted to hospitals.Out of 421 total admitted patients, 311 have been discharged. At present, 15 patients remain in ICUs. Door-to-Door health surveys underway According to CMHO Dr Madhav Prasad Hasani, the health department has deployed 200 survey teams.They have visited 2,745 houses and contacted 14,000 people. To handle emergencies, five ambulances have been deployed in the area. Doctors are on 24-hour duty at MY Hospital, Aurobindo Hospital, and Chacha Nehru Hospital. 3 petitions to be heard in High Court today On Tuesday, the Indore Bench of the High Court will hear three petitions together related to the crisis. Who Filed the Petitions Earlier hearing and government status report The case was earlier heard on January 2. At that time, the government told the court that four deaths had occurred. The municipal corporation submitted a separate status report on water contamination. The corporation informed the court that: Tanker water supply details shared with court The status report stated that: Photographs of tanker water distribution were also submitted to the court. Officials suspended, engineer terminated The corporation confirmed disciplinary action: Copies of these orders were presented in court. The High Court later directed the government to submit a detailed final report. Retired policeman dies after kidney failure The 17th death was of 69-year-old Omprakash Sharma, a retired policeman.He was a resident of Shiv Vihar Colony, Dhar, and had come to Indore to meet his son. He was admitted to a private hospital on January 1 with vomiting and diarrhoea.Tests showed severe kidney damage.His condition worsened, and he was shifted to the ICU on January 2.He was later placed on a ventilator and died on Sunday at 1 PM. Family members said he only had blood pressure issues.They believe contaminated water caused kidney failure. ICU situation at Bombay Hospital At Bombay Hospital, 11 patients were admitted to the ICU.Out of them, four have been shifted to the ward.As of Sunday night, seven patients remain in ICU care. So far: Congress announces city-wide candle marches In response to the crisis, the Congress party has announced protests.Candle marches will be held in all 85 wards of Indore, demanding accountability and action.
