Two deadly road accidents in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday night claimed eight lives. In Katni, four members of the same family died after a pickup truck hit their bike. In Seoni, a couple and their two young children were killed when their bike crashed into a parked truck while they were travelling to celebrate the New Year. Katni accident: Family wiped out on bike The first accident took place in the Reethi police station area of Katni district. It happened around 9 pm on Thursday night between Hirapur and Badgaon. A pickup vehicle carrying tomatoes from Damoh rammed into a motorcycle. The impact was extremely severe. See pictures of the Katni accident Four killed, including a toddler Three people died on the spot. These included two men and a two-and-a-half-year-old girl. A fourth man was rushed to Reethi Community Health Centre but died during treatment. The victims were identified as: All belonged to Bagwar village in Panna district. The family was returning from Barji village in Katni district. Vinod was Anu’s brother-in-law, while Premlal was Vinod’s brother-in-law. All four worked as daily wage labourers. Pickup driver fled the scene After the crash, the pickup driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Police from the Salaiya outpost reached the spot soon after getting information. The damaged motorcycle was completely crushed. Police have sent all bodies for post-mortem and are searching for the absconding driver. Seoni accident: Family heading for New Year celebrations The second accident occurred in Kurai area of Seoni district around 7:30 pm. A bike hit a truck parked on the Jabalpur–Nagpur National Highway near Riddi Tek. A family of four was travelling to their relatives’ house in Dargadha village to celebrate the New Year. Couple and two children die on the spot All four riders died instantly. The deceased were: They were residents of Khawasa Tola village and were riding bike number MP 22 ZC 2632. See pictures of the Seoni accident Truck parked due to engine failure According to Barghat SDOP Lalit Gathre, the truck was parked on the roadside due to engine failure. Warning indicators had been placed. However, due to darkness and high speed, the bike rider could not see the truck in time. The collision was fatal. Police action underway Kurai police reached the spot immediately after the accident. All four bodies were sent to the hospital for post-mortem, which will be conducted on Friday morning. Police are continuing their investigation in both cases.
