Panic broke out on Wednesday morning at Jawahar Navodaya Higher Secondary School in Jaura, Morena, when 80 students from classes 9 to 12 locked themselves in the hostel. The students took this step to protest against harassment by their PT teacher. The students refused to open the doors even when the school management requested them. Police, ambulance, fire brigade, and administrative officials had to be called. After nearly three hours of talks, the students finally opened the hostel gate. The incident happened at the school on Pagara Road. In the morning, classrooms were found empty, and the school management discovered the students had locked themselves in the hostel. When asked why, the students said they would not come out or talk to anyone until senior administrative officials arrived. They explained to the students and assured them that the PT teacher would be transferred and a committee would be formed to investigate the matter. To ensure an impartial investigation, the accused teacher has currently been sent on leave. Meanwhile, the school staff says that a student was beaten yesterday, after which the student also used abusive language towards the teacher. They had some issues. There were also complaints regarding the PT teacher. They insisted on presenting their case before an administrative officer. The children were counselled, after which they opened the door. School staff say that students had complained about being beaten by the PT teacher. However, an incident occurred yesterday in which a student raised a hand against the PT teacher and used abusive language. A total of 80 students had locked themselves in the hostel. The matter is serious. We are investigating the truth of the matter. A letter has been written to the District Education Officer, instructing them to visit the site and form a committee for a clear investigation of the matter. No one from the school management will be part of this committee.
