Bhutan’s off-spinner Sonam Yeshi has etched her name into cricket history with a stunning bowling performance in the third T20 International against Myanmar. The 22-year-old became the first bowler in the world to take eight wickets in a T20 match, achieving the feat on December 26 in Gelephu. Sonam delivered an unforgettable spell, finishing with figures of 8 wickets for just 7 runs in four overs, including a maiden. Her economy rate stood at an incredible 1.75, making it one of the most dominant bowling displays ever seen in the shortest format of the game. First-Ever 8-wicket haul in T20 cricket This is the first time in T20 cricket history that a bowler has taken eight wickets in a single match. Earlier, the best figures were seven wickets in a match. Netherlands’ Colin Ackermann achieved it in 2019, while Afghanistan’s Taskin Ahmed repeated the feat in 2025. In T20 Internationals, only two bowlers have managed seven-wicket hauls so far. Malaysia’s Syazrul Idrus took 7/8 against China in 2023, while Bahrain’s Ali Dawood claimed 7/19 against Bhutan in 2025. Sonam’s performance has now set a new benchmark. Bhutan thrash Myanmar by 82 runs Chasing a modest target of 128, Myanmar were completely dismantled by Bhutan’s bowling attack and were bowled out for just 45 runs. Sonam Yeshi led the charge with her historic spell, helping Bhutan secure a massive 82-run victory. With this win, Bhutan have taken an unassailable 4-0 lead in the five-match T20 series.
