‘Every Indian should learn atleast one South Indian language’:Shivraj Singh Chouhan says, ‘I am also learning one’; states linguistic diversity would strengthen national unity

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday said every Indian should learn at least one South Indian language, calling linguistic diversity a strength that enhances national unity and mutual understanding. He added that he himself is trying to learn a South Indian language. Chouhan was speaking at a mega farmers’ symposium in Hosur, organised by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation. Stating Indian culture cultural integration, he said learning each other’s languages helps build stronger bonds across the country. The Union minister also said the Centre is considering formulating a new policy on tree-based agriculture, drawing inspiration from the initiatives of the Isha Foundation. He noted that such farming practices have the potential to protect the environment while increasing farmers’ incomes. Highlighting key initiatives, Chouhan said the Isha Foundation is actively promoting tree-based farming among farmers, which can improve environmental health and farmer prosperity. He added that under the guidance of Sadhguru, efforts would continue to make farmers active partners in nature conservation. He stressed that regenerative agriculture, focused on restoring soil fertility rather than degrading it, can help repair the disrupted balance between humans and nature. Addressing the gathering, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev said farming should be freed from unnecessary rules and regulations. He asserted that farmers should have full rights over what they grow on their land and urged the government to clearly distinguish between crops grown on agricultural land and produce from forests.
