On Saturday, a brother and sister riding a bike fell from a culvert on the Betul-Bhopal National Highway. Dharmendra Uike (29) of Kotmi Mal village, Shahpur police area, was injured when an iron rod pierced his thigh. His sister, Poonam Uike (24), was also hurt. The siblings were going to Padhar market when a red car from behind cut them off. They lost balance, and the bike fell from the culvert. Rod pierces leg; rescue operation underway Dharmendra’s thigh got impaled by iron rods beneath the culvert, leaving him writhing in pain. Passersby alerted Dial-112 and the local police. Shahpur and Padhar police personnel arrived and initially tried to free him using a saw. When the situation became critical, a gas cutter was brought in, and after considerable effort, the rods were removed. Both siblings were then taken to District Hospital Betul by 108 ambulance. Critical condition; referred to Bhopal for surgery Doctors at Betul said Dharmendra’s condition was critical. Medical Officer Dr. Prakash Tiwari explained that the rod’s passage through the thigh posed a risk to nerves and muscles. Surgery at the district hospital could have worsened his injury, so he was referred to Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal for micro-vascular surgery. He had to travel around 225 km with the rod still in his thigh, enduring severe pain during the journey. Sister stable, police search for car driver Poonam Uike is receiving treatment at District Hospital Betul and is reported to be stable. Police have registered a case, and the driver of the red car is absconding.
