South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has revealed that Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant apologized to him for calling him a ‘Bauna’ (dwarf) during the Kolkata Test in November. This incident had happened on Day 1 of the Kolkata Test between India and South Africa when Bumrah had appealed for an LBW against the Proteas captain. As Bumrah and Pant were discussing whether to use the DRS (Decision Review System), the stump mic caught them saying, “Bauna bhi hai ye.” Bauna is a Hindi word used to refer to people of short height. The video of the same went viral on social media in no time. However, Bumrah hugged Bavuma after the Kolkata Test came to an end, seemingly burying the hatchet. At the end of the day, two senior players, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, came and apologized,” said Bavuma. The South Africa captain stated that he wasn’t initially sure why Bumrah and Pant apologized, but later learnt about the incident from his team’s media manager. “When the apology was made, I was in the dark about what it was about, I hadn’t heard it at the time and I needed to check in with our media manager about it,” he added. ‘No grudges’: South Africa captain Temba Bavuma says ‘You don’t forget what is said’ Bavuma went on to state that he does not hold any grudge in the aftermath of the ‘Bauna’ remark but does not forget what is said on the field. “What happens on the field, stays on the field, but you don’t forget what is said. You use it as fuel and motivation, but there are no grudges per se,” he wrote in his column. He has captained South Africa in 12 Tests so far and 11 of those have resulted in victories. One Test ended in a draw. Bavuma also led South Africa to World Test Championship glory, the country’s first ICC title in 27 years.
