The issue of Gwalior’s dilapidated roads has been a topic of discussion not just in the city but across the country for several months. The complaints of people troubled by potholes, sunken roads, and broken paths seemed ineffective until now, but just before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit, a miracle seemed to have happened in Gwalior. The roads whose repairs had been stalled for months are now being fixed overnight. In view of Amit Shah’s arrival in Gwalior, work is going on day and night on the main road from Surya Namaskar intersection to Akashwani square. Asphalt-based roads are being prepared using machines. This is the same route through which Amit Shah is likely to go to pay tribute at former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ancestral home. This road had been severely damaged since the rains, but remained neglected for common people. Now the same road is being made spotless due to VIP movement. Local people are surprised to see the road being built. A passerby living near the Agricultural University said sarcastically, “No one paid attention to the bad roads for years, but the road was built in two days due to the minister’s visit. We would only say that Amit Shah should come to Gwalior every month so that other roads can also be built.” Posh area road is in poor condition for year The road in Gwalior’s posh area, known as Sachin Tendulkar Marg, has been in poor condition for about a year. People are troubled by potholes and flying dust here. Residents say that conditions have become so bad that respiratory and eye diseases are increasing, but no permanent solution has been implemented so far. 280 roads are dilapidated, yet the situation remains unchanged There has been political tension regarding the roads in Gwalior. Many roads from Chetakpuri to Nadi Gate have sunk, with tunnels even visible in some potholes. The administration faced severe criticism after the road near Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s palace collapsed. After this, Minister in-charge Tulsiram Silawat inspected the city on a scooter and reported that about 280 roads are in poor condition. A target was set to repair the roads by November and February 2026, but no significant changes were visible at the ground level. Opposition’s allegation – The system woke up just before leader’s arrival The opposition also cornered the government regarding roads. Congress held protests and rallies. Even Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi raised the issue of Gwalior’s roads on social media. The opposition alleges that roads are being repaired only because of the upcoming visit of a senior BJP leader. Minister Silawat says, ‘Other roads will also be constructed’ Now, when roads are being constructed before Amit Shah’s visit, questions are being raised about what will happen to the remaining roads. On this, Minister in charge Tulsiram Silawat says that all roads will be repaired and work is being expedited. For now, Gwalior residents are saying that leaders should keep visiting; perhaps this way, all city roads will also get fixed.
