Four police personnel were killed and one critically injured after a speeding container collided head-on with a police van near Bandri on National Highway-44 in Sagar district on Wednesday morning.
The impact was so severe that the vehicle had to be cut open with a JCB machine to retrieve the bodies of the deceased. The dog accompanying the squad survived the crash. Meanwhile, one jawan is critically injured and has been airlifted to Delhi’s Gangaram Hospital. Returning from anti-Naxal duty According to officials, the bomb disposal unit and dog squad from Morena district had been deployed in Balaghat for anti-Naxal operations. The team was returning to Morena in a BD-DS vehicle (registration MP 03 A 4883) when a container coming from the opposite direction rammed into it at Jhinjhini Ghat near Bandri. The collision occurred on a stretch of NH-44 where underbridge construction has diverted traffic into a temporary one-way system, leading to the head-on crash. JCB used to cut open vehicle The front portion of the police vehicle was completely mangled, trapping the driver and the personnel inside. Rescue workers used a JCB machine to cut open the twisted metal and extract the bodies. The remains were then sent to Bandri hospital for post-mortem formalities.
