India faced a 10% match fee penalty after being found guilty of maintaining a slow over rate during the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur on December 3. The match turned disappointing for India as South Africa successfully chased down a big target of 359 runs to level the series 1-1. The penalty added more frustration to an already difficult outing for the hosts. However, India quickly recovered from the setback. In the third ODI played in Visakhapatnam, the team produced a dominant performance and secured a 9-wicket win to clinch the series 2-1. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s superb century played a major role in India’s strong comeback. Senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also supported with solid half-centuries. With the ODI series now complete, both teams are preparing for the upcoming T20 series, starting December 9 in Cuttack. As per ICC rules, a team is fined 5% of its match fee for every over short. Since India were behind by two overs, the players were fined 10% of their match fee. The penalty was imposed by Richie Richardson from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. The charge was officially raised by on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Rohan Pandit, along with third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal. India’s captain KL Rahul accepted the sanction, which meant no formal hearing was needed. South Africa levelled the series in the 2nd ODI In that second ODI, South Africa’s chase of 359 runs was the highlight of the match. Chasing 271 runs, the team reached the target comfortably in the 40th over. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant century, showing maturity and confidence. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli added steady half-centuries, ensuring India cruised to a 9-wicket victory. T20I series begins on December 9 With the ODI series done, India and South Africa will now shift focus to the 5-match T20 series. The opening match will be played in Cuttack. India enter the series on a positive note after their ODI victory, though they previously suffered a 2-0 clean sweep in the Test series.
