Crowd threw stones beat police with sticks in Rajgarh:Two cops injured during 1.5-hour seige; team had gone to arrest kidnapping accused

A police team that arrived to arrest a wanted man in Abhaypur village under Khilchipur police station limits was attacked by villagers on Thursday. The team, which included officers from Pachor police station in both uniform and civil dress, was surrounded for nearly one and a half hours. Villagers allegedly pelted stones, used sticks and clubs, tore the policemen’s clothes, and damaged a car, breaking its glass. Policemen Arvind Goyal and Gaurav Singh sustained injuries in the attack. Villagers mistook arrest attempt for kidnapping According to villagers, the clash began when Pursingh Saundhiya was returning after feeding his cattle. They claim four men got down from a car near Hanuman ji’s platform, caught Pursingh, and started beating him without revealing their identity or purpose. Residents believed the youth was being kidnapped, especially since a young man from nearby Dhamnia village had gone missing a few days earlier. This suspicion drew a large crowd to the spot. Four policemen captured by villagers As the situation escalated, the car occupants tried to flee toward Dhamnia. Villagers gave chase, caught four policemen, and detained them. The confrontation intensified, and the police team remained surrounded for nearly an hour. During this period, stones were thrown and physical assaults were reported. Additional force intervenes After receiving information, police teams from across the district reached Abhaypur. However, villagers initially refused to release the detained officers, insisting the group had come to abduct a local youth. Only after continuous intervention by senior officials and additional force did the crowd disperse. The injured policemen were then taken to Khilchipur hospital for treatment. An investigation into the incident and the villagers’ claims is underway.
