The first match of the Ashes series between Australia and England began in Perth on Friday, and the opening day completely belonged to the Australian bowlers. England, after winning the toss and choosing to bat first, was bowled out for just 172 runs in the second session. Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc was the hero of the day, taking seven wickets and completing his 100 wickets in Ashes history. England’s decision to bat first proved to be a major setback for them as their top order collapsed under Starc’s fierce pace. Only vice-captain Harry Brook (52) and Ollie Pope (46) were able to offer some resistance, while the rest of the batting lineup failed to score significantly. Early collapse for England, Starc bags 7 wickets The trouble for England began right in the first over when Mitchell Starc trapped Jack Crawley LBW for a duck. Shortly after, Ben Duckett was dismissed for 21, and Joe Root, one of England’s key players, was caught in slips by Labuschagne without scoring. Ollie Pope and Harry Brook tried to rebuild the innings with a valuable 55-run partnership for the fourth wicket. However, Cameron Green dismissed Pope LBW for 46, breaking the only stable partnership England managed all day. Brook slams 52 runs in Perth Test After lunch, the collapse continued. Captain Ben Stokes was clean bowled by Starc for only 6 runs. Debutant Doggett dismissed Harry Brook, who top-scored with a well-played 52 before being caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carey. Following that, Starc removed Gus Atkinson for 1 run, picking up his fifth wicket. Doggett claimed another when Brydon Carse was caught for 6. Starc then wrapped up the innings by dismissing Jamie Smith for 33 and Mark Wood for a duck. Besides Starc’s seven wickets, Doggett took two wickets and Cameron Green claimed one. Starc reaches historic Ashes milestone In this match, Mitchell Starc achieved a personal milestone by completing 100 wickets in the Ashes. Playing his 23rd Ashes Test, he became the 20th bowler overall and the 13th Australian to reach this landmark. He achieved this milestone by dismissing Joe Root.
