Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board Chairman Sanwar Patel and Board Director Faizan Khan have received death threats, including threats of beheading, after they welcomed an RSS path sanchalan last month by showering flowers. Two Instagram accounts allegedly issued the threats, prompting an FIR by Ujjain’s Mahakal police. Police tracing Instagram accounts Mahakal police station in-charge Gagan Badal said an FIR has been lodged based on a written complaint filed by both officials. While the identities of those operating the threatening Instagram accounts remain unknown, the cyber cell has been given the IDs for technical investigation. Police said the accused will be arrested once their digital footprints are traced. Complaint filed on October 11 Last month, the RSS had conducted a path sanchalan in Ujjain. From the stage, Patel and Khan welcomed the march, which reportedly angered some individuals. The online threats said, “You are hypocrites… Inshallah, when Muslims are in the majority, your necks will be the first to be cut.” Following the threats, Faizan Khan submitted a complaint to the Mahakal police on 11 October, seeking action against two individuals- Taj Ansari and Mohammad Faizal Khan. After a month-long inquiry, police registered a case against both on 9 November under Sections 296, 351(3), and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). ‘We Welcomed the March for Social Harmony’ Faizan Khan said the Waqf Board had requested its members to welcome the RSS path sanchalan marking the organisation’s centenary year, scheduled for 5 October 2025. To promote social harmony, a stage was set up at Topkhana in Ujjain for the reception. “After we uploaded the video of the welcome on Instagram, some extremists began threatening us continuously. We are being abused with obscene and derogatory comments. We fear for our lives, and our dignity is being targeted,” Khan said.
