Girlfriend shot near Bundelkhand University battles for life:AIIMS doctors remove bullet, both legs numb; father says condition still critical

The girl who was shot in front of Bundelkhand University in Jhansi is admitted to AIIMS Bhopal, where doctors operated her for 3 hours. Doctors have removed the bullet stuck near the spine, but student Kritika Chaubey (20)’s both legs are reported to be numb (lifeless). Whether she will be able to walk or not will only be clear after the wound heals. The team of AIIMS doctors have placed rings in the spine after the operation. Doctors say that the risk of infection had increased due to the bullet being stuck in the spine for too long. It should be noted that the student was shot by her boyfriend. After this, the accused committed suicide. With tears in his eyes, Kritika’s father Gauri Shankar says- Daughter’s condition remains critical. She has been kept in the ICU. She has regained consciousness and is able to talk. But she is distressed, the lower part of her body is not functioning. Doctors say her condition may improve gradually. Kritika Choubey’s house is in Talabpura locality of Lalitpur city. She was a first year MBA student at Bundelkhand University where she had taken admission in the university this year. She lived in the PG hostel of the university campus. Among 3 sisters in the family, Kritika was the second daughter. We found Kritika’s house locked. Neighbors told us that their family had gone to Bhopal for treatment. After this, we spoke to Kritika’s father Gauri Shankar over phone. He said that the operation was successful, but doctors are still unable to tell whether his daughter will be able to walk or not. They say that wounds will heal gradually. After talking to Kritika’s father, we reached Manish Sahu’s (25) house. He was also from the same neighborhood. Both received their primary education together in Lalitpur. Being from the same neighborhood, they used to visit each other frequently. Family members revealed that they had been in a relationship since 2018. During their education life, both took vows to live and die together. But problems began when Manish quit studies after 8th grade. This is why he couldn’t get a job. Manish was a worker of the Samajwadi Party. He was associated with the Lohia Vahini wing. He had also served as the former city president of the student assembly. Three FIRs of assault were also filed against Manish, all of which are from different cases. Manish knew that he could only marry Kritika when he started earning money. That’s when Manish took up a job as a driver in a government department, but Kritika was not at all okay with this. Mother said – Kritika never came to our house
We met Manish’s mother Ramsakhi at his house. We asked, ‘What happened on November 9?’ She said, ‘In the morning Manish left home in a hurry. I had asked where he was going. But he didn’t answer. Then in the evening at 4 o’clock, there was a call from Jhansi police that an incident had occurred here.’ We asked, ‘Did Kritika ever come to your house?’ They said, ‘No, we didn’t know anything about their relationship. Kritika never came to our house. Manish never told us about her. I regret that he should have at least told us what the problem was. Family members could have thought about it or discussed something.’ Father said – What could be more painful than losing a son
After shooting Kritika, Manish died by suicide by shooting himself. Manish’s body reached Lalitpur on November 10. His last rites were performed at 9 PM at the temporary cremation ground near Sitapath located at the foothills of Govind Sagar Dam. Manish’s cousin performed the last rites. Around 50 people including Manish’s friends, relatives and neighbors attended the funeral. Women from the neighborhood and relatives were also present at home. According to Bundelkhand tradition, fathers do not participate in their son’s final journey. For this reason, Manish’s father remained at home holding his 5-year-old granddaughter. During our conversation, he said, ’20 years ago I lost one hand in a bus accident. I was a carpenter by profession. Now my son is also gone. Family members said that Manish was married to Bhavana a year ago. But Manish did not accept this marriage. He refused to accept his wife. He broke ties with his wife just 2 months after marriage. After fighting with the family, he called a panchayat 3 months ago and divorced his wife. Now know the story of murder planning…. Although Manish had divorced his wife, Kritika had distanced herself from Manish. Meanwhile, Manish did not want to leave her at any cost. Kritika was not talking to him and had blocked Manish’s number. Because of this, he went into depression and started roaming around Kritika’s hostel. When the police spoke to both families, it came to light that Manish and Kritika had met in Jhansi during Diwali. At that time, Kritika had told Manish, “We won’t talk anymore from now on. Even though you are leaving your wife, I cannot marry you.” But Manish kept calling her repeatedly to meet one last time. Police found continuous calls from Manish’s number on Kritika’s mobile phone. One more thing was learned from Kritika’s friends that one day her mobile was continuously ringing in class, but she wasn’t picking up. Suddenly Kritika got irritated, picked up the phone and scolded badly. She even said that if you call again, no one will be worse than her. Later it was found that these calls were being made by Manish. On November 7, Manish called Kritika again and said – I’m going to Delhi now. I will never bother you. Our paths will be separate now. But let’s meet once before that. Because of this, Kritika agreed to meet. Sunday, November 9, the college holiday, was fixed for their meeting. He called Kritika on the pretext of meeting one last time. On November 9, both went to Havana Restaurant and ate noodles, burger and french fries. Then they reached the university. Here at 2:15 PM, Manish shot Kritika and committed suicide.
