The Kolkata Police have announced extensive traffic restrictions and diversions in and around the Maidan area from November 14 to 18, coinciding with the first Test match between India and South Africa at Eden Gardens. Notification issued to prevent traffic congestion According to a notification issued on Tuesday by Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma, the measures are aimed at preventing congestion and ensuring smooth movement during the five-day match. The restrictions will remain in force between 7 AM and 7 PM on all match days. Three major roads closed to vehicles Three major roads, Khudiram Bose Road (Auckland Road), North Brooke Avenue, and Gostha Pal Sarani (Kingsway) will remain completely closed to vehicular traffic during the specified hours. Movement of goods vehicles will also be restricted in and around the Eden Gardens and Maidan areas during this period. Several roads marked as no-parking zones Several prominent stretches, including Gostha Pal Sarani, Kshudiram Bose Road, Government Place East, Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Old Court House Street, Indiragandhi Sarani (Red Road), Guru Nanak Sarani (Mayo Road), and Dufferin Road, have been declared no-parking zones. The notification clearly states that no parking space will be provided for taxis, private buses, or other vehicles around the stadium. Bus terminus temporarily shifted for match days The bus terminus near Band Stand and Auckland Road will be temporarily shifted to Kiran Shankar Roy Road and Esplanade Row East (Central Bus Terminus) on match days. Several buses and mini-buses from South, North, and East Kolkata, as well as Howrah-bound services, will face route diversions as directed by traffic personnel. Police authorised to divert vehicles anytime Officials have also authorised on-duty officers to divert vehicles from any arterial or feeder roads as required to control the crowd and traffic flow near the Maidan and Eden Gardens. Commuters have been advised to plan their routes to avoid inconvenience during the Test match.
