Fresh from their historic ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup win, Team India is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on November 5. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side ended India’s long wait for a global title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday (November 2). The champions are currently in Mumbai celebrating their victory and are scheduled to fly to the national capital to meet the Prime Minister on Wednesday (November 5), claims a report carried by Sportstar. The meeting is planned days after the team scripted history, becoming the first-ever Indian women’s side to win the ODI World Cup. PM Modi congratulates the World Champions Soon after the team’s emphatic win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the players through a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter). Describing the victory as “spectacular,” the Prime Minister praised the team’s unity, determination and exceptional skills. “A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports,” Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Celebrations yet to be finalised Even as fans across the country continue to celebrate, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still finalising its plans for an official felicitation ceremony and possible victory parade. “Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told IANS on Monday, speaking from Mumbai airport. “I’m leaving for Dubai to attend the ICC meetings. Several senior officials are heading there as well, so once we return, we will plan accordingly.” The ICC meetings, scheduled from November 4 to 7 in Dubai, will keep most of the board’s top officials occupied this week. Once they return, a detailed plan to honour the world champions is expected to be announced.
