gwalior’s-nurse-accuses-doctor-of-kolkata-like-misconduct-in-hospital:captures-entering-hod’s-chamber-at-gajararaja-medical-college;-cctv-footage-confirms-complaint

A shocking case of harassment has surfaced from Gwalior’s Gajra Raja Medical College (GRMC)-affiliated Super Specialty Hospital, where a nursing officer has accused two senior doctors — Dr. Shivam Yadav, Head of the Nephrology Department, and Dr. Girja Shankar Gupta, Hospital Superintendent — of mental harassment, caste abuse, and indecent behavior. The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday morning around 11:30 AM, inside the HOD’s chamber. The nurse alleged that she was pressured to “compromise” with the doctors and was threatened with consequences similar to those faced by a junior doctor in Kolkata’s R.G. Medical College case. CCTV footage confirms nurse’s visit to the chamber The police have seized the CCTV footage from the hospital premises to verify the claims. The video reportedly shows the nursing officer entering and exiting Dr. Shivam Yadav’s chamber around the time mentioned in her complaint. Officials confirmed that the investigation, initially handled by TI Kampoo Police Station, has now been transferred to CSP Inderganj Robin Jain due to the sensitivity of the case. ‘I was mentally tortured for 18 months’ In her statement, the nursing officer revealed that she had been under mental pressure for nearly one and a half years. She alleged that both doctors “crossed all limits” recently. “They threatened me, saying they would do to me what happened to the junior doctor in Kolkata’s R.G. Medical College,” the nurse said. She claimed to possess text messages from the doctors that allegedly prove the attempts to “compromise” and inappropriate communication. Transferred for refusing to ‘compromise’ The nurse further stated that she had been serving in the Nephrology Department for a long time. However, after refusing to comply with the doctors’ demands, her posting was abruptly changed to the Pediatrics Department just two days prior to the incident. “I went to Dr. Yadav’s chamber only to get a receipt signed for my transfer order. That’s when he insulted me with caste-based slurs, misbehaved, and said I should listen to Dr. Girja Shankar and ‘compromise’ with them,” she said. He even held my hand with bad intentions and warned me that if I didn’t agree, I’d face the same fate as the junior doctor in Kolkata. The nurse added that the transfer letter is in her possession and that it was used to target her for refusing to submit to the doctors’ demands. ‘They cut my salary and showed me absent’ According to the nurse, the harassment had been ongoing for a year and a half. She claimed that even when she was present on duty in November and December 2024, the doctors marked her absent and had her salary deducted. “I tolerated everything because I wanted to save my job. But they mistook my patience for weakness. They kept testing my limits, and finally, I broke down,” she said. All evidence preserved, to be presented in court The nurse asserted that she has saved all digital evidence — including messages allegedly sent by the doctors — that will prove her allegations. “I have messages showing how they called me at odd hours for no reason and asked me to compromise. I’ll submit everything in court,” she told the police. Police investigation underway; court statement next Following her complaint, the Kampoo Police Station registered a case against Dr. Shivam Yadav and Dr. Girja Shankar Gupta under charges of caste-based insult, sexual harassment, and misconduct at the workplace. The investigation has been handed over to CSP Inderganj Robin Jain. The police confirmed that the case is being treated as sensitive and high-profile due to the involvement of senior medical officials. The nurse’s statement was recorded at the police station on Wednesday, and her judicial statement will be recorded in court on Thursday. Officials have also secured all CCTV footage from the Super Specialty Hospital to prevent any tampering with evidence. The survivor’s background The complainant, a 27-year-old woman from Simriya Tanka village in Ghatigaon, currently serves as a nursing officer at the Super Specialty Hospital attached to J.A.H. (Jay Arogya Hospital). In her complaint, she accused the doctors of casteist remarks, sexual misconduct, and repeated harassment over her refusal to submit to their demands. “When I went to get my application marked, Dr. Yadav said I would continue to suffer unless I agreed to their conditions. He said if I wanted to keep my job, I would have to compromise,” she recounted.
“He hurled caste-based slurs and said, ‘Go complain wherever you want — no one can touch us.’” Doctors deny allegations Reacting to the allegations, Dr. Shivam Yadav, HOD of Nephrology, denied all claims, calling them false and motivated. “All allegations are baseless. The nurse was not performing her duties properly, so we transferred her two days ago. She is retaliating by filing a false complaint,” said Dr. Yadav. Meanwhile, Dr. Girja Shankar Gupta, Superintendent of the Super Specialty Hospital, said he had no knowledge of the incident. “My name was included in the FIR only because the nurse claimed that Dr. Yadav mentioned me. I have nothing to do with this matter,” said Dr. Gupta. Hospital administration under scrutiny The case has put the hospital administration under public and administrative scrutiny. GRMC management has yet to issue an official statement, though sources indicate that the Health Department may initiate an internal inquiry once the police report is filed. Human rights and nursing associations have also demanded strict action if the allegations are proven true, urging the state government to ensure the nurse’s safety and protection from workplace retaliation.
