A shocking case of sexual harassment and caste abuse has surfaced from the Jaya Arogya (JAH) Super Specialty Hospital in Gwalior. A doctor allegedly told a nursing officer that she would have to “compromise” to secure her job. When she refused, he caught her hand with ill intent and hurled caste-based slurs at her. The incident reportedly took place around 12 noon on Tuesday in the chamber of the Head of the Department (HOD) of Nephrology. The nurse later lodged a formal complaint at the Kampoo police station. Two senior doctors booked Following the complaint, police registered an FIR against Dr. Shivam Yadav, HOD of the Nephrology Department, and Dr. Girja Shankar Gupta, the hospital superintendent. An investigation has been initiated into the allegations. The 27-year-old complainant, a resident of Simiriya Tanka village in Ghatigaon area of Gwalior, told police that she had gone to Dr. Yadav’s chamber to get her application marked and receive an acknowledgment. “You must compromise for the job” According to the nurse’s statement, Dr. Yadav allegedly told her that unless she obeyed him and Dr. Girja Shankar Gupta, she would continue to face trouble at work. “If you want the job, you will have to compromise. Otherwise, we’ll transfer you somewhere you won’t be able to work,” he reportedly said. The complainant further alleged that Dr. Yadav told her to “keep the medical superintendent happy”, implying that she must do as instructed by Dr. Gupta. Assault and caste abuse When the nurse tried to leave, Dr. Yadav allegedly grabbed her hand. The woman managed to free herself and ran out of the chamber. As she fled, the doctor allegedly used caste-based slurs and said, “Complain wherever you want; no one can harm us.” The frightened nurse called her parents and narrated the incident. Later in the evening, she approached Kampoo Police Station and lodged a written complaint against both doctors. Police initiate investigation Station House Officer (SHO) Amar Singh Sikarwar confirmed that the complaint had been received and an FIR was registered against both accused doctors under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. “A woman staff member has accused two doctors of harassment and caste abuse.
