‘suryakumar-yadav’s-batting-form-doesn’t-concern-me’:gautam-gambhir-backs-india-skipper’s-ultra-aggressive-batting-approach

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has thrown his full support behind T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, saying he is not worried about the skipper’s recent poor form. Gambhir believes that failures are ‘inevitable’ when a team is committed to playing an ultra-aggressive brand of cricket. Under Suryakumar’s leadership, India lifted the Asia Cup trophy last month in the UAE. However, the captain himself had a forgettable tournament, scoring only 72 runs in seven innings. Despite that, Gambhir said he remains confident in Surya’s abilities and approach. “Honestly, Surya’s batting form doesn’t concern me because we have committed to an ultra-aggressive template in our dressing room. When you embrace this philosophy, failures are inevitable,” Gambhir said during a discussion on JioHotstar. ‘We accept failures in our approach’ – Gambhir Gambhir explained that the team’s focus is not on individual performances but on maintaining an attacking style of play. “It would be easy for Surya to score 40 runs off 30 balls and avoid criticism, but we have collectively decided that it’s acceptable to fail while pursuing this approach,” he said. When Surya finds his rhythm, he will shoulder the responsibility accordingly,” Gambhir added. Gambhir speaks on Team India’s fearless culture The former India opener also spoke about his partnership with Suryakumar and their shared vision of building a fearless team culture. “Surya is a great human being, and good humans make good leaders. My role is simply to advise him based on my understanding of the game. Ultimately, this is his team,” Gambhir said. He praised Suryakumar’s positive and free-spirited attitude, calling it a perfect fit for T20 cricket. “From our first conversation, we agreed that we will not fear losing. I don’t aim to be the most successful coach; I want us to be the most fearless team,” he added. Only the opinions of those in the dressing room matter,” he said.
