A shocking case of molestation involving two Australian women cricketers has surfaced in Indore. The incident occurred on Thursday morning (October 23) when two Australian players were walking from the Radisson Blu Hotel to The Neighbourhood Café near Khajrana Road, ahead of their ICC Women’s World Cup match. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at MIG Police Station, the accused, riding a motorcycle, followed the two players, made lewd gestures, and allegedly tried to grab one of them. The players immediately alerted their Team Security Manager, Danny Simmons, through a ‘Live Location’ distress signal at 11:08 a.m., followed by a WhatsApp message. Hey SOS, just sending you my live location… there’s a guy following us trying to grab us. Swift response and arrest Within minutes, Simmons contacted the Team Liaison Officers, who coordinated with the Indore police for immediate assistance.
Police traced the location in real time and dispatched teams to intercept the suspect. By evening, the accused, identified as Aqeel, a 30-year-old resident of Khajrana, was detained. Police officials said, A case has been registered under Sections 74 and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), equivalent to “outraging the modesty of a woman.” CCTV footage from near the Radisson Ring Road and Khajrana area captured the accused trailing the cricketers, which helped the police identify and apprehend him swiftly Official complaint and ICC notification The written complaint was filed by Danny Simmons, Australian Team Security Manager, on behalf of Cricket Australia. In his statement, Simmons said: Our players were walking a short distance to a nearby café. Around 11 a.m., they sent me an SOS alert that a man was following them and trying to grab them. Both the players were escorted back to their hotel and did not sustain any physical injuries. Security under review The ICC and BCCI were immediately informed of the incident. Local security protocols for international players have since been reinforced. Police have also reviewed security deployment around team hotels and practice venues to prevent any recurrence. Senior officials admitted that although security was present, the players chose to walk the short distance without an escort. The accused has been remanded to custody and is being interrogated.
