A first-year postgraduate student at MGM Medical College in Indore has accused four senior resident doctors of severe mental harassment. She claims she was constantly threatened, warned of removal from OT postings, and subjected to false rumours regarding her medical leave. The student has lodged a complaint with the UGC’s National Anti-Ragging Cell. Allegations of mental harassment The student said her seniors forced her to do excessive work and night duties. They created a humiliating environment and spread false messages about her on a WhatsApp group. The constant mental pressure caused her to lose 22 kg in four months, and she required hospitalisation at MY Hospital. Forced leave and emotional strain Unable to cope with the pressure, the student had to take extended medical leave. She stated in her anti-ragging complaint that the issue was not workload but deliberate mental harassment. Her mental condition deteriorated severely. Even her family confirmed that she was mentally distressed and is currently undergoing treatment. Details from the complaint The complaint names four senior resident doctors. According to the student, the seniors circulated false messages on WhatsApp, claimed her medical leave was fake, and threatened that she would be denied OT duties for six months upon return. Additionally, she was warned to work extra night shifts as a form of punishment. Anti-ragging committee investigation After receiving the complaint via email, the Anti-Ragging Committee began an investigation. Dr. Poonam De Sarkar, the committee chairperson, confirmed the complaint and stated that the committee will record statements from the student and the accused doctors. The committee will submit its report to the National Anti-Ragging Cell and college administration. Statement from HOD Dr. Nilesh Dalal, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, said the matter is currently with the Anti-Ragging Committee. Further action will be taken once the investigation is complete.
