The gold reserves with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) crossed 880.18 metric tons (8,80,180 kg) in the first six months (April-September) of 2025-26. At the end of 2024-25, it was 879.58 metric tons. As of 26 September, the total value of gold was $95 billion (₹8.4 lakh crore). This information has come to light in RBI’s latest report. In the six months until September, RBI added 0.6 metric tons (600 kilos) of gold to its stock. 0.2 metric tons (200 kilos) in September and 0.4 metric tons (400 kilos) of gold were purchased in June. In 2024-25, RBI had added 54.13 metric tons of gold to its treasury. Demand prices increased due to global uncertainties RBI said in its latest bulletin that gold demand increased rapidly due to global and geo-political uncertainties. This is because central banks and investors worldwide are buying it as a safe asset. Due to increased demand and purchases, prices rose in both global and domestic markets. During this period, central banks worldwide added 166 tons of gold to their official reserves, which increased its demand. As a result, gold prices remained high in the third quarter and reached their highest level ever in September. This year gold became costlier by ₹47,745 and silver by ₹66,484 So far this year, the price of gold has increased by ₹47,745. On 31 December, 2024, 10 grams of 24-carat gold was priced at ₹76,162, which has now increased to ₹123,907. The price of silver has also increased by ₹66,484 during this period. On 31 December 2024, one kilogram of silver was priced at ₹86,017, which has now increased to ₹1,52,501 per kilogram.
