England beat Sri Lanka by 89 runs in match number 12 of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in Colombo’s R Premadas Stadium on Saturday (October 11) to go to the top of the points table with three wins in as many matches. Riding on captain Nat Sciver-Brunt’s hundred, followed by an exceptional bowling show led by Sophie Ecclestone, England registered a comprehensive victory. At one stage, England were reduced to 4 wickets for 150 runs after 32 overs. However, Nat Sciver-Brunt’s hundred helped them post a competitive 253 which eventually turned out to be enough as Sri Lanka were all out for 164. England had lost 2 wickets within 50 runs England’s wicketkeeper Amy Jones, who came out to bat first after losing the toss, was run out after scoring 11 runs. Tammy Beaumont then steadied the innings, but she returned to the pavilion after scoring 32 runs. The team lost 2 wickets for 49 runs. Former captain Heather Knight then scored 29 runs and took the team past 100 runs. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt then steadied the innings with Sophia Dunkley. Dunkley was out after scoring 18 runs. Sciver-Brunt then took the team past 150 runs with Emma Lamb. Nat completed 28 sixes in ODIs, becoming the player with the most sixes for England in Women’s ODIs. She broke the record of Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who had hit 27 sixes. Sri Lanka’s search for first win in this World Cup continues England registered their second win in the tournament by defeating Bangladesh by 4 wickets in the last match and have now tasted another win over Sri Lanka whose search for their maiden win continues in the tournament following losses to India and England.
