Bhopal’s Piplani police on Saturday registered a murder case against two police constables, Santosh Bamniya and Saurabh Arya, accused of beating Udit Gaayki (22), the brother-in-law of DSP Ketan Adlak, to death late Thursday night. The FIR was filed early Saturday morning after preliminary inquiry, following which both accused cops went into hiding. Notably, the duo had been suspended before the FIR was registered, the police said. Three dedicated police teams have been deployed to locate the fugitives, senior police officials confirmed. Udit beaten with sticks during ‘beer party’ Piplani police station house officer (SHO) Chandrika Yadav told Bhaskar English that Udit, a resident of Bank Colony in Bhopal’s Dilkushabagh, was an engineer and was the only son of MPSEB Assistant Engineer Rajkumar Gaayki and school teacher Sangeeta Gaayki. He had two elder sisters, one married to DSP Adlak, currently posted with the Hawk Force in Balaghat. On Thursday night, Udit was drinking beer with friends Akshat Bhargava and Deepak Barkade in Indrapuri when the constables, posted on the Charlie patrol unit, detained them. The officers allegedly forced Udit to strip and then brutally assaulted him with sticks, demanding Rs 10,000 to let them go. When Udit and his friends refused to pay the money, they intensified the assault. Udit’s friends rushed him to Sai Hospital, and later to AIIMS Bhopal, where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later due to internal bleeding from blows to the abdomen. CCTV footage seized; friends made witnesses Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-II) Vivek Singh confirmed that both accused have been booked for murder. CCTV footage from the scene has been seized as crucial evidence, and Udit’s friends have been made key witnesses. Their statements will be recorded as part of the ongoing investigation. The constables remain untraceable since the incident, but police say their arrest is imminent. Udit was home on leave Family members told police that Udit had completed his engineering from a Sehore college and had recently secured a job. He was in Bhopal on a six-day leave to collect his degree and spend time with friends when the incident occurred.
