Administrative action by MGM Medical College following the MY Hospital “rat bite incident” has come under scrutiny after contradictory government orders surfaced. On 3 September, college dean Dr. Arvind Ghanghoria suspended Dr. Mukesh Jaiswal, assistant superintendent and building in-charge at MY Hospital, ordering that his headquarters remain at the college during suspension. Yet, just a month later, an order dated 1 October 2025 from MY Hospital listed Dr. Jaiswal as a member of the drug, surgical items and medical material purchase committee. The overlapping directives show that without formally ending his suspension, Dr. Jaiswal was named to a new responsibility. Administrative experts say this not only breaches service rules but also undermines transparency in a sensitive case. JAYS demands clarity The tribal youth organisation JAYS (Jai Adivasi Yuva Shakti) objected strongly, with national president Advocate Lokesh Muzalda alleging that the move casts doubt on the seriousness of MGM’s action. He demanded that the government clarify whether the suspension was ever revoked and urged Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to order a high-level probe to ensure accountability. Superintendent’s clarification MY Hospital superintendent Dr. Basant Ningwal later clarified that Jaiswal’s inclusion was a clerical mistake: Because he was part of the old committee, his name was wrongly carried over. The order has been corrected. Dr. Jaiswal remains under suspension. Congress slams “shielding of guilty” The Congress also hit out, accusing the administration of protecting and even rewarding those responsible. Party spokespersons Rajesh Choukse, Girdhar Nagar and Amit Chaurasiya demanded that the rat incident inquiry report be made public without delay. They called for criminal cases against the dean, superintendent, concerned officials, and Agile company, along with strict punishment. The party further demanded justice and compensation for the victim’s mother and accountability of the ministers allegedly shielding officials.
