Another doctor posted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, has brought laurels to the institute through outstanding contributions in ophthalmic research, the hospital authorities reported on Wednesday. Dr Priti Singh, an additional Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology at the institute was honoured with two awards at the 48th Annual Conference of the Madhya Pradesh State Ophthalmic Society (MPSOS), held in Gwalior from October 3 to 5, 2025, the institute authorities said. Award for Glaucoma research Dr Singh received the Late Dr Tanuja Kate Memorial Award for Best Paper in Glaucoma for her research titled “Glaucoma Mimickers: Diagnostic Challenges in Resource-Limited Settings.” The study explored the high prevalence of non-glaucomatous optic neuropathies that are often misdiagnosed as glaucoma. Dr Singh highlighted how limited access to advanced diagnostic tools can complicate accurate detection, leading to delayed or inappropriate treatment. She proposed structured diagnostic protocols that combine Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), visual-field analysis, and neuro-imaging, emphasising that such integrative approaches can significantly enhance accuracy and ultimately improve patient care. Another recognition received for work in Neuro-Ophthalmology In addition to this, Dr Singh was awarded the Dr Ramesh Krishna Memorial Award for Best Physical Poster for her research in neuro-ophthalmology. The study, based on a rare case report recently published in the BMJ Case Reports journal, highlighted the critical role of detailed neuro-imaging and interdisciplinary evaluation in diagnosing optic-pathway disorders. The case study demonstrated how complex neurological conditions can manifest with ocular symptoms, stressing the importance of collaboration between ophthalmologists, neurologists, and radiologists to ensure precise diagnosis and effective treatment.
