Bhopal witnessed large-scale protests on Tuesday as workers of several Hindu outfits, such as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged demonstrations against rising incidents of cow slaughter, cow smuggling and beef recovery in the state capital. As part of their pre-announced programme, activists laid siege to 25 police stations across Bhopal and adjoining areas, submitting a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister. Demonstrations see Hanuman Chalisa recitals The protest began around 4 pm, with workers gathering outside police stations holding saffron flags and banners. At several locations, the demonstrators recited the Hanuman Chalisa, demanding strict action against those involved in cow slaughter and illegal transport. A large crowd assembled at the Habibganj police station, where activists performed Hanuman Chalisa inside the premises before handing over a memorandum to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Umesh Tiwari. Protests aimed at drawing attention of administration Bajrang Dal leaders said the initiative was aimed at drawing the administration’s attention to the recurring incidents of cow smuggling and beef seizures. The police stations surrounded during the protest included Obedullaganj, Mandideep, Gauharganj, Misrod, Katara, Bag Sewaniya, Piplani, Ayodhya Nagar, Bilkhiriya, Sukhi Sewaniya, Intkhedi, Nishatpura, Aishbagh, Gandhi Nagar, Parvalia Sadak, Khajuri Sadak, Bairagarh, Ratibad, Kolar, Habibganj, Gunga, Berasia and Nazirabad. VHP warns of stir if action not taken VHP’s Naya Bhopal District Minister Mohit Soni said, “Several vehicles ferrying beef have been seized in the last week alone. Despite strict laws and a sensitive Chief Minister, the condition of cows is worrying.
