Bhopal’s Kotwali police on Wednesday laid hands on a notorious criminal, identified as Faizan Machhli, for opening fire in the city’s Budhwara area, following a dispute over Rs 1.5 lakh, the police said. Faizan, known to be a close associate of drug trafficker Yaseen Machhli, allegedly fired multiple rounds at a local youth late on Tuesday night. According to Kotwali police, an FIR was registered soon after the incident, and the accused was taken into custody on Wednesday morning. He is currently being interrogated, and officials said that he may be served a notice and may be released after questioning. Victim runs tea, biryani shop Kotwali police station in-charge Kashiram Kushwaha told Bhaskar English that the complainant, Danish Beg (30), runs a tea and biryani shop in Budhwara. Danish told police that at around 1:15 am, he was sitting outside his house with his elder brother Sharik Beg and friend Farhan. At that time, Faizan arrived on a scooter with two others and began arguing over a financial transaction of Rs 1.5 lakh. Fires 8 rounds in air When Sharik opposed the verbal abuse, Faizan allegedly pulled out a country-made pistol and fired nearly eight rounds into the air to spread panic. He also attacked Sharik with kicks and punches. Following the complaint, police booked Faizan under Sections 296, 125(A), 351(2), 3(5) of the BNS, along with provisions of the Arms Act (25/27). Pistol seized from Faizan’s possession The police arrested Faizan from his residence in the early hours of Wednesday and seized the country-made pistol used in the incident. The investigating police officials are now probing the source of the weapon and how much he paid for it. Criminal history of the accused Senior police officials said that Faizan has a long-standing criminal history, with at least eight previous cases registered against him, including rioting, assault, firing, and other unlawful activities. His close association with notorious drug peddler Yaseen Machhli has further raised concerns about organised crime networks in the city.
