ICC (International Cricket Council) has suspended USA Cricket (USAC) for breaking rules. This means USAC will no longer be able to use the rights of ICC’s full membership. However, American cricket teams can still participate in ICC tournaments and preparations for the 2028 Olympics. ICC will now give USAC a chance to improve and will monitor it so that the suspension can be lifted in the future. This step has been taken to strengthen cricket in America and improve its perception there. Why USA cricket got suspended? ICC had placed USAC on notice for non-compliance at the first 2024 Annual General Meeting. USAC was given 12 months to rectify its drawbacks. Later on, in July 2024, ICC members kept USAC on “notice” and directed it to conduct independent and fair elections. Along with these directives, the apex board also directed to implement governance reforms. This will include substantial and specific changes to the governance structure, operations and cricket ecosystem. The normalisation committee will also monitor USAC’s progress and provide consultative support.
