Around 850 sanitation workers in Kalyan-Dombivli protested against being excluded from Sumeet Elko’s new waste collection contract. Supported by Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction), led by Deepesh Mhatre, the workers demanded absorption into the company. Following negotiations with KDMC officials and Sumeet Elko, an assurance was given that eligible workers would be absorbed by August 15.
