‘Bail rule, jail exception’ principle forgotten in recent past, says CJI Gavai

Chief Justice of India B R Gavai expressed concern over the forgotten principle of ‘bail is the rule, jail is the exception,’ despite judicial integration. He highlighted his efforts in 2024 to reestablish this principle while granting bail in cases like Prabir Purkayastha, Manish Sisodia and Kavita vs ED.
