Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai has discussed with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in detail about the construction of the multi-purpose Bodhghat Dam Project and the Indravati-Mahanadi Interlinking Project as a national project.
He said that Bastar division has been Naxal affected for a long time, due to which the division has lagged behind in the development of irrigation resources, the Chhattisgarh government is working on multi-purpose Bodhghat Dam project and Indravati-Mahanadi link project to address the problem of irrigation resources in the division and promote all-round development.

The Chief Minister has said that the Bodhghat Multipurpose Dam Project will prove to be a decisive project for the all-round development of the Bastar region. The project has long been proposed on the Indravati River. Indravati is a major tributary of the Godavari River. The Godavari Water Disputes Agency’s 1980 award also mentions the project along with other plans. Other projects mentioned in this award have been implemented by other states but could not be started due to remote areas and Naxal problems.

The pace of development of Bastar will double

The multi-purpose Bodhghat dam project will provide double speed to Bastar’s development as the area of irrigation resources in the division increases. The project generates 125 MW of electricity, 4824 tonnes of annual fish production such as additional employment, irrigation expansion to 3,78,475 hectares including Kharif and Rabi and 49 min. d. Me will ensure availability of drinking water. The Indravati-Mahanadi interlinking project will also provide irrigation facilities to more than 3,00,000 hectares of land, including irrigation in 50,000 hectares of Kanker district. The multi-purpose Bodhghat dam project will benefit 269 villages in Dantewada, Bijapur, Sukma districts immensely. While the Indravati-Mahanadi interlinking project will expand irrigation facilities to many villages in Kanker district.
