It’s to be mentioned here that Col Sophia Qureshi of the Corps of Signals has created history by achieving the rare distinction of becoming the first woman officer to lead a training contingent of the Indian Army at Force 18, the ongoing ASEAN Plus multinational field training exercise.

In the Indian Army, a Colonel is a senior commissioned officer rank, placed above a Lieutenant Colonel. It is equivalent to the Captain rank in the Indian Navy and Group Captain in the Indian Air Force. Colonels often hold important leadership positions.
