A 26-year-old man drowned while bathing in the Shipra River after visiting the Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on Friday. The incident occurred around 4 pm near Bhookhi Mata Ghat. An SDRF team carried out a rescue operation for nearly 35 minutes, but the man could not be saved. Victim had come to Ujjain with friends The deceased has been identified as Suraj (26), a resident of Gwalior. He had travelled to Ujjain with three friends to offer prayers at the Mahakaleshwar Temple. After completing the darshan, the group went to Bhookhi Mata Ghat to take a holy dip in the Shipra River. During the bath, Suraj reportedly entered deep water and drowned. SDRF launched immediate rescue operation Suraj’s friends immediately raised an alarm, prompting personnel at the ghat to inform the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). An SDRF team, including Rajendra Dabi, Rahul Suryavanshi, Jitendra Bhadoria, Vineet Suryavanshi, and Deepak Patel, reached the spot with a rescue boat and trained divers. The divers began an intensive search and recovered Suraj from the river after approximately 35 minutes. CPR failed to revive the victim After bringing him out of the water, the rescue team administered CPR at the scene in an attempt to revive him, but he showed no signs of life. Police and an ambulance were then called to the spot. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and police have launched an investigation into the incident. Throughout the rescue operation, the victim’s friends repeatedly appealed to the SDRF team to save him. Administration urges caution Authorities said the Shipra River’s water level has risen due to recent rainfall. The administration has urged devotees to exercise caution while bathing in the river and avoid venturing into deep water.
