Two shocking cases from Madhya Pradesh have exposed the growing misuse of AI and deepfake technology to defame people. In Ujjain, an MBBS student became the victim of a deepfake conspiracy after her morphed obscene video went viral. In Bhopal, a young woman allegedly created AI-generated obscene photos and videos of a man’s mother and 18-year-old sister after he refused to marry her. Ujjain: Relative creates deepfake video to settle family rivalry An MBBS student from Ujjain’s Panwasa area became the target of a deepfake conspiracy after her morphed obscene video was circulated on social media and village WhatsApp groups. The case came to light after the student’s father filed a complaint with Panwasa police. Police investigation found that the conspiracy was allegedly planned by the student’s relative, who wanted to defame her father due to family and electoral rivalry. According to police, the accused could not find the student’s photograph because she was not active on social media. They allegedly obtained her photo from government records after a woman Booth Level Officer (BLO) provided the image that had been submitted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. The photo was then edited using deepfake technology to create an obscene video, which was circulated in village WhatsApp groups. Police have arrested four of the five accused. The woman BLO has been granted bail, while one accused remains absconding. Police have seized mobile phones and other digital evidence. Bhopal: Mother and sister targeted after man refuses marriage In another case from Bhopal’s Karond area, a young woman allegedly used AI tools to create obscene photos and videos of a man’s mother and his 18-year-old sister after he refused to marry her. According to the family, the woman uploaded the AI-generated content through fake social media accounts, causing severe mental distress and social humiliation. The victim’s family alleged that despite approaching Chhola police station, no action was taken initially. They later submitted complaints to the Police Commissioner, Collector and other senior officials, seeking registration of an FIR and strict action against the accused. The family said the 18-year-old girl has been under severe stress since the fake images went viral. Growing concern over AI misuse The two incidents have highlighted how AI and deepfake technology can be misused to damage reputations, invade privacy and cause psychological trauma. Cyber experts advise people to avoid sharing personal photographs publicly, secure their digital data, and immediately report suspicious AI-generated or morphed content to the police and cyber crime authorities.
