At least three people died and more than 10 others suffered electric shock after a Tazia came into contact with a high-voltage power line during a Muharram procession in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district on Thursday night. Seven people were injured, five of them critically, and have been admitted to different hospitals. The incident took place in Hatnara village under Piploda. According to officials, the deceased have been identified as Rashid Khan, Saddu Hussain and Arbaaz Khan. However, Arbaaz’s family took him from the hospital before formal procedures were completed. As a result, the district administration has officially confirmed two deaths, while duty doctor Dr Ravindra Solanki said three people were brought dead to the hospital. Pictures related to the accident… Injured undergoing treatment at Medical College Those admitted to Ratlam Medical College include Anas (16), son of Akram; Moin Shah (35), son of Ishq Shah; Rahim Khan; Akhtiyar Khan; Irfan; Shah Rukh; Shakeel; Rais; Mohammad; and Waheed. Ibrahim, son of Hanif, has been admitted to Ratlam District Hospital. Around 200 people were part of the procession Eyewitness Imamuddin Mansuri said a Muharram procession was being taken out in Hatnara village with around 200 participants. During the procession, the Tazia came into contact with a high-voltage electricity line passing about 20 feet above the road. He claimed the power line was hanging unusually low. As soon as the Tazia touched the line, electricity spread through the structure, causing several people walking in front to collapse after receiving electric shocks. The eyewitness also alleged that neither police personnel nor electricity department staff were present at the spot when the incident occurred. Video captures moments after the accident A video of the incident has also surfaced. It shows panic breaking out in the procession after the electric shock. People can be seen shouting for help, while several victims are lying on the ground. Bystanders are seen shifting the injured to safer locations. Duty doctor: Three victims were brought dead Dr Ravindra Solanki, who was on duty at Ratlam Medical College, said three people had died before reaching the hospital and were brought there without signs of life. He added that relatives of two of the deceased took the bodies away without completing the formal documentation, despite being informed that the victims had already died. One body has been kept in the Medical College mortuary. ASP: Investigation into the incident begins Ratlam Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rakesh Pandro said police and administrative officials reached the spot immediately after receiving information. He said a preliminary investigation indicates that the Tazia came into contact with the overhead high-voltage power line during the procession, resulting in multiple people suffering electric shock. The administration has launched an inquiry to determine whether there was any lapse in maintaining the required height of the power line or in complying with safety standards. What is a Tazia?
