A video showing a young woman brandishing what appears to be an illegal pistol has surfaced in Rewa city amid a series of recent firing incidents and violent crimes. The video was posted from an Instagram account named “manu_rewa”. Taking serious note of the matter, Rewa Superintendent of Police Dr Gurkaran Singh has ordered an investigation. The woman shared two reels on her Instagram account in which she can be seen openly displaying the weapon. The viral videos have been viewed by more than 5,000 people so far. Such public display of firearms has created fear among residents of the city. He said, “The issue has come to our notice through social media. Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the case. Strict legal action will be taken against those concerned based on the facts that emerge during the probe.” At present, the police’s IT and Crime Branch teams are verifying the authenticity of the video, the legality of the weapon and the identity of the woman. Videos with pistols have been posted before as well This is not the first case of people displaying firearms on social media in Rewa. Earlier, police from Saman police station had apprehended a youth who was making a video call while carrying an illegal pistol. In that case, police registered a case under the Arms Act and seized the weapon. Despite that action, similar videos continue to surface, raising questions over police monitoring and enforcement efforts.
