Following the incident, the hospital management is trying to suppress the entire matter. Meanwhile, no official statement has been issued by the hospital administration so far. Admitted due to a lump in the throat According to family members, Devendra Pathak had a problem with a lump in his throat. He was admitted on June 10 to Ward No. 26 of the ENT department of Bundelkhand Medical College, Sagar. After examination, doctors decided to perform a biopsy, and preparations for the procedure were underway on June 13. According to the patient’s son, Shantanu Pathak, blood and other necessary tests were completed on June 12. During this time, the hospital staff asked the family to bring three vials of Atracurium Besylate injection. Condition worsened immediately after injection, allegation of heart stopping The family alleges that after bringing the medicine, the nurse on duty immediately administered a vial of the injection into the patient’s IV line. They claim that within minutes of the injection being administered, the patient started experiencing difficulty breathing. According to the family, after this, the patient’s pulse rate and heartbeat continuously dropped, and after some time, the heart completely stopped beating. Seeing the critical condition, the team of doctors immediately became active. Patient’s heartbeat returned after a long effort After the patient’s condition worsened, the doctors continuously administered CPR for about 45 minutes. After a long effort, the patient’s heartbeat returned. After this, he was immediately shifted to ventilator support. After the incident, the patient’s condition remained extremely critical. He remained under medical supervision. According to the family, treatment continued after placing the patient on a ventilator. On June 17, four days later, he was shifted to the ICU. The family was informed that his condition was improving. However, this relief did not last long. After his death, the family raised their voice regarding allegations of negligence. Accused of being busy on mobile phone The complaint also alleges that the concerned nurse was busy on her mobile phone and using a Bluetooth device while administering the injection. However, this allegation could not be independently confirmed, nor has the hospital administration given any official response in this regard. Claim of another patient’s condition deteriorating The family members have made another serious claim in the complaint. They state that at the same time Devendra Pathak was given the injection, another patient nearby was also given an injection. According to the family members, that patient’s condition also became serious and he also had to be put on a ventilator. However, he recovered after treatment. This claim also could not be independently confirmed. Questions being raised over hospital management’s silence According to information, the matter is in the knowledge of the Medical College administration. A senior doctor at the hospital, on condition of anonymity, stated that there is talk of the concerned nurse being suspended, but there has been no official confirmation of this. Attempts were made to contact Dr. P.S. Thakur, Dean of Bundelkhand Medical College, to get his side of the story, but he did not answer the phone. There was also no response to the WhatsApp message. Meanwhile, Dr. Vishal Bhadkariya, Media In-charge of the college, said that he would only be able to comment after obtaining complete information about the matter. Expert explained why this drug is sensitive According to Dr. Pankaj Shukla, former director of NHM, Atracurium Besylate is a very sensitive and high-risk drug. It is not used under normal circumstances and should only be administered under the supervision of an anesthesia specialist. According to him, if this drug is accidentally given to someone, the body’s muscles start becoming inactive within two to three minutes. If timely and proper medical assistance is not provided, the patient’s life could be in danger.
