According to a recent survey by LocalCircles, even today 48% of customers do not see the expiry date when purchasing goods online. The food safety regulator FSSAI has now shifted the responsibility of displaying the expiry date of packaged food and beverage items on online platforms to the Department of Consumer Affairs. Whereas in 2024, it had itself given assurance of taking action. Amazon and Flipkart comply with expiry date rules; Blinkit and Zepto apps still failing According to the survey, quick delivery apps like Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, JioMart and Milk Basket are not following this rule. Due to this, customers often receive old items that are about to expire soon. The survey stated that only Amazon, Flipkart and BigBasket are displaying this essential information on their apps. More than 17,000 responses were received from consumers in 164 districts. This included 61% men and 39% women. 53% were from Tier-1, 29% from Tier-2 and 18% from Tier-3 and Tier-4 districts.
