Two truck drivers were burnt alive after a head-on collision between a dumper and a truck triggered a massive fire near Phool Ka Pura village in Gwalior district during the intervening night of June 16–17. According to reports, the accident occurred around 2 a.m. when a dumper coming from the Datia side collided with a truck heading towards Gwalior. The impact caused a diesel tank explosion, which quickly set both vehicles ablaze. Drivers trapped between steering and seats According to Behat police, both drivers became trapped inside their cabins, wedged between the steering wheel and seats, with no way to escape. The dumper driver has been identified as 30-year-old Jitendra Singh Gurjar from Morena. He was travelling towards Datia in vehicle RJ-11-GE-3752. The truck driver, Surendra Singh Gurjar from Bangaroli village in Morena, was driving vehicle MP-07-ZP-3610. Fire spread rapidly after fuel tank blast Eyewitnesses said the collision was so severe that the front portions of both vehicles were completely destroyed. Sparks from the crash reportedly ignited the fire, which spread rapidly after the diesel tank exploded. Within minutes, both vehicles were engulfed in flames. The trapped drivers reportedly struggled inside the burning cabins for a long time before succumbing to the fire. See pictures after the accident Locals and police unable to rescue victims Upon receiving information, Behat police reached the spot along with local residents and attempted to control the fire and rescue the drivers. Villagers tried breaking open the cabin doors and poured water using buckets, but the flames were too intense, making rescue impossible. By the time fire brigade units arrived, both drivers had already been burnt alive. Forensic team collects evidence On Wednesday morning, a forensic team reached the site and collected evidence. After a difficult operation, the remains of both bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination. Samples were also collected for identification and further investigation. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether overspeeding, overtaking, or any other factor led to the crash.
