Indian senior management has reacted to Vaibhav’s outburst on the field just after the end of the match. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has tightened the screws on the players who were involved in the heated altercation during Monday’s tri-series clash in Dambulla. It has come to light that the match referee for the India A vs Sri Lanka A 15 June match, Pradeep Jeyapragash, has issued sanctions on the Sri Lankan players who were part of a disciplinary breach. As per a Cricbuzz report, in the match ending full of actions like heated exchanges and shoving, Lankan player Vishen Halambage is believed to have taken the harshest hit. However, it is yet to be cleared if Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has also received punishment from the match referee. ‘Sooryavanshi needs to learn’: Senior Indian management On Tuesday evening, the Indian Senior team management responded to the incident involving Sooryavanshi. Ahead of the 2nd ODI against Afghanistan, Team India spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule said in Lucknow, “I think it was an unfortunate incident. But we don’t know how he was provoked.” “Because, as far as I know, Vaibhav is a very composed boy. I’m sure there are experienced coaches there who will make him understand. And I think the Sri Lankan players should also be educated in terms of how they need to behave. And so does it go with us. We will make sure that information is given to him as to why that happened. But he will learn. He’s a young kid, and going forward, some sort of understanding will be there with him. I’m sure he will not repeat it.” More than 2 Lankan players face penalty, Sooryavanshi’s situation unclear As per the same report, it has been learned that every one of the players who was involved in the heated exchange has received sanctions. What’s surprising is that a fine was also imposed on Niroshan Dickwella, who prevented the Halambage-Vaibhav Sooryavanshi from further escalation. Reportedly, sanctions on Dickwella are due to any other offence, but the nature of the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper’s disciplinary breach is yet to be revealed. It remains unclear whether any sanctions have also been imposed on Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old who was seen getting physical with Halambage after the conclusion of the ill-tempered match. SLC, BCCI, and India A management have not issued any official response, but it has been learned that the Sri Lankan board has taken the action through its own power and without any formal hearing. Moreover, SLC was disappointed over the fact that such an altercation between Indian and Sri Lankan players took place on Sri Lankan soil. What was the original incident between the India A and Sri Lanka A players? After India ‘A’ were beaten in a Super Over, tempers flared between players from both sides, leading to a short and intense exchange involving shoving before the situation was eventually brought under control. In detail, Sooryavanshi and Sri Lanka A’s Vishen Halambage were seen engaged in a heated conversation. The verbal spat escalated to physical contact before wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella stepped in to calm down the situation. Halambage and his teammate Wanuja Sahan were apparently having words with dismissed Indian batters, with Suryansh Shedge one of the targets.
