Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has lodged a police complaint against an unofficial Facebook page, alleging that it has been running a sustained campaign to defame him through misleading and damaging content. Complaint filed at Thakurpukur Police Station The complaint was submitted on June 15, 2026, to the Officer-in-Charge of Thakurpukur Police Station in Kolkata. In his complaint, Ganguly stated that while criticism is an inevitable part of public life, the content being circulated by the page had crossed the line and was causing harm to his reputation. Ganguly alleges defamation through social media According to the complaint, the Facebook page titled “Sourav Ganguly Fans”, which has more than 3.6 million followers, has been sharing content that Ganguly described as defamatory and misleading. He alleged that the posts were aimed at tarnishing both his personal image and professional standing. Sportzwiki named in formal complaint The former BCCI president also named Sportzwiki as the publishing platform behind the articles being circulated through the page. The complaint further identifies Bhupendra Singh Ahluwalia as the owner of the media platform. Legal action sought Ganguly urged the police to investigate the operators of the page, trace those responsible for publishing and promoting the content, and initiate legal action under relevant provisions of law. He also sought steps to prevent the further misuse of social media platforms for spreading defamatory material. Police at Thakurpukur Police Station have acknowledged the complaint. Sources said investigators are expected to examine the digital footprint of the Facebook page and associated publishers as part of the inquiry.
