Sonam Raghuwanshi, the prime accused and wife of the deceased in Indore’s high-profile Raja Raghuwanshi murder case, has denied reports that she fled to Nepal after being released on conditional bail. In a statement to the East Mojo channel, Sonam said, “False information is being spread about me. I appeal to the public not to believe rumours. The reports claiming that I have fled to Nepal are completely baseless and fabricated.” Her statement came in response to allegations made by Raja Raghuwanshi’s elder brother, Vipin Raghuwanshi, who claimed that Sonam had left the country and escaped to Nepal after securing bail. He had also demanded a CBI probe into the case. Read the questions asked to Sonam and her answers… Question: Have you been complying with all the conditions set by the court since getting bail? Sonam Raghuvanshi: Yes, I have always fully complied with all the bail conditions I received from the court, and I will never break those boundaries. Question: Where have you been living since getting bail? How are you managing your expenses? Sonam Raghuvanshi: Currently, I am living in Shillong itself. I have not gone outside Shillong at all. As for expenses, I don’t want to say anything about that. That is my personal matter. Due to security reasons, I cannot make public my exact place of residence within Shillong. Question: Are you planning to leave Shillong? Do you have any plans to go to Indore now? Sonam Raghuvanshi: No, I have no plans to go to Indore right now, because my case is still ongoing here. Until it is completely finished, I will not go anywhere. The hearing of the case is currently underway. People are telling complete lies about me. Question: From 1st day itself, public opinion appears to be against you. What is your own opinion? Sonam Raghuvanshi: My case is currently in the hearing stage in court, so I would not like to say anything more on this subject right now. Question: What would you like to say about your commitment to cooperate in the court proceedings? Sonam Raghuvanshi: Yes, I have always fully cooperated in every court proceeding. I will continue to do so in the future. I am complying with whatever conditions were given to me, respecting them. I have always had great respect for our justice system and will continue to have it in the future. Direct questions and answers with defense lawyer Sudeep Rana Question: Deceased’s brother, Vipin Raghuwanshi, has accused you of helping Sonam Raghuwanshi escape to Nepal? Lawyer Sudeep Rana: This is a completely false and baseless accusation. Just because I am of Nepali origin does not at all mean that I am from Nepal or have any connection there. I was born and raised in Shillong city itself, and all my education also happened here. I have no one in Nepal. The biggest proof that this allegation is false is that Sonam herself is present here today. The hearing of this case was scheduled in court today, and she has appeared personally in Shillong. I am also in the court premises at this time, which clearly proves that we never left Shillong at all. Question: How do you view Sonam Raghuwanshi’s role in the ongoing hearing on supplementary chargesheet? Lawyer Sudeep Rana: Look, a supplementary chargesheet has been filed in the case. The arguments from the prosecution side (government lawyer) have been completed. Today’s date was fixed for filing our response, and we have submitted our response before the court. We have specifically presented our side regarding the sections of the Arms Act – whether this law applies against Sonam or not. Now the government lawyer has asked for time till Monday to respond to this point. Since the case is still pending, we can only say that it is currently in the hearing stage. Question: (Question to defense lawyer Preeti Pradhan) How are you ensuring the safety of the accused? Lawyer Preeti Pradhan: As far as the security arrangements for the accused are concerned, it would be better to leave this question aside at this time. He is safe in Shillong city itself, and it would not be appropriate for me to discuss in detail his security arrangements or the security he is receiving right now. If there can be a central investigation for the girl, then why not for the boy Vipin Raghuvanshi, who is fighting for justice in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, is insisting on a CBI investigation of the matter. Vipin Raghuvanshi’s argument is that when central agencies can investigate high-profile cases involving girls in the country (such as the Twisha case), then why can’t this be done in the case of a boy’s brutal murder? He says that this case is also extremely sensitive and high-profile. Additionally, it involves aspects of two different states, like Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya. In such a situation, according to him, to conduct an impartial investigation of the entire matter and bring out the truth, it should be investigated by a central agency. Now, read how the murder conspiracy was plotted? On May 11, 2025, Raja Raghuvanshi, a major transport businessman from Indore, got married to Sonam Raghuvanshi with great pomp and show. A few days after the wedding, both went to Meghalaya to celebrate their honeymoon. Just a few days after reaching there, on May 23, 2025, both suddenly went missing, after which the police started searching for them. On June 3, 2025, the police recovered Raja Raghuvanshi’s body from a deep gorge in Meghalaya. After this, when investigating agencies started an intensive investigation of the case, a murder conspiracy hatched under the guise of a honeymoon was revealed. The police arrested several accused involved in this case. During the investigation, when several links were connected, the role of the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, also emerged as the main conspirator in the police investigation. After this, the police arrested her as an accused and sent her to jail. However, Sonam is currently out on bail.
